Padre Pio was an Italian Capuchin friar whose feast is celebrated on September 23.
He joined the Capuchins at the age of fifteen and was marked by stigmata in 1918. He attracted many followers to San Giovanni Rotondo and founded a hospital.
After his death, his devotion continued to spread and he was beatified on May 2, 1999 and canonized on June 16, 2002.
